BREWSTER – The Tonasket volleyball team lost two more games last week, making their league record 0-9 with only a few weeks left in the season.

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the Tigers lost at home against Cascade in three sets of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-15. April Webber served 10 of 10 with four kills, Maribella Alvarez served eight of eight, Jessica Rhoads served seven of seven with three kills and Taylor Ayers served nine of ten with three aces.

“The Tonasket girls played hard,” Nellie Kirk, head coach, said. “They made some great defensive plays and stayed in the game with Cascade. It was fun to watch the girls play together and show hustle and intensity in their play.”

Junior Jayden Hawkins said she thought the team played really well.

“We did a lot better than everyone was expecting us to and I was really proud of how we played,” Hawkins said. “We’ve improved a lot over the season. We’re coming together a lot more as a team than at the start of the season. I’m proud of the team. Hopefully we can keep this up the rest of the season and win some games.”

On Thursday, Oct. 8, the Tigers lost to Brewster on the road in three sets of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-14. Alvarez served nine out of ten, Ayers served seven of eight, Webber served eight of eight with two kills and Hawkins served nine of 11.

“I did not think that the girls played well,” Kirk said. “They were flat and lacked hustle. It really is hard to get out of that mode. You could see they were making an effort, but it was just not enough to bring the entire group to a more positive team that was working together.”

As of press time, the Tigers had not yet played at home against Lake Roosevelt on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Their next game is Thursday, Oct. 15 away against Chelan.
