Wayne Sommerfeld passed away in Tonasket, Washington on Aug. 5, 2016, at age 84. He was born in Seattle, Washington on Nov. 20, 1931 to Al and Lu Sommerfeld.
Wayne grew up in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle, Wash., graduating from Queen Anne High in 1949. He spent his summers as a youth working as a firefighter in Beauville, Idaho. He began his 39 year career with Pacific Northwest Bell (AT&T) as a splicer’s helper, retiring in 1993 as a Supervisor.
He married Carole Ann Wertz on Jan 26, 1952 in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.
Wayne and Carole enjoyed dancing, waterskiing, fishing and dogs. They lived in Shoreline, Wash. for 30 years, raising three children there. Upon his retirement they purchased 60 acres near Tonasket, his slice of heaven, away from the big city life. Wayne was a handyman, skilled in electronics, mechanics and construction. He was always busy fixing something. In his late 70’s he learned computing, spending time working with family photos and music.
Preceded in death by his wife Carole, parents Al and Lu Sommerfeld, and sister Myrna. Survived by his brother Karle; children, Jeanne (Dan) Purpur, Jody (Jack) Thomas and Johnny Sommerfeld (Michelle Llerat); seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel of Okanogan was assisting the family with arrangements.
A niche side gathering will be held Sunday, September 4, 2016 at 9 a.m. at Evergreen-Washelli Columbarium, Chapel of the Cross Room, 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle. A celebration of life will follow.
