Ruth Edwins Conley, age 96 of Tonasket, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at North Valley Extended Care in Tonasket. She was born January 26, 1920 in Seattle to parents Irvin and Gertrude Edwins.
Ruth was a published poet, avid gardener and loving mother. She was an academic, graduating with high honors for University of Washington, as a student of Theodore Rethkey. She married Brigadier General Samuel Glenn Conley following her own unique military service as a WAC in Europe during WW II. She travelled extensively in Europe, participating in many events. A well-known author in literary circles, she spent her retirement years in her beloved Tonasket with son, James.
Ruth is survived by her daughters Joan Conover and Mary J. Watt, son James Conley, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren
She was preceded in death her husband Brigadier General Samuel G. Conley, brother James Edwins, sisters Margaret Connor and Phlorence Rhode, step son Samuel Glenn Conley, Jr and step daughter Alice Merrill.
Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Tonasket Cemetery with Pastor Leon Alden, officiating. Military honors will be presented by Tonasket American Legion Post#82 and Spokane Honor Guard.
