John F. “Jack” McCliment

John F. “Jack” McCliment, 91, a resident of Tonasket, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011. Jack was born in Omak, Feb. 25, 1920 to John and Kathleen (Forrester) McCliment.

As a boy growing up in Portland, Ore., he was often sent to Tonasket in the summers to work for his aunt and uncle. Jack attended Grant High School in Portland and graduated as a valedictorian. He received a scholarship to the University of Oregon at Eugene, which he attended for four years before being drafted into WWII. While going to college he met and married Dorothy Daniels. They had four children: Diane Allstot, Kathy Munns, Michael McCliment and Patrick McCliment. Jack served almost four years in the Army during WWII. Most of that time was in Belgium, France and Germany. After Jack was discharged from the Army he worked for San Rafael Independent Journal as a reporter. He went to work for Dun and Bradstreet in San Francisco and did many other things there also.

Jack developed a love for golf and tennis at an early age and won many awards and championships in each. Many times up until his last days you would find him working the New York Times crossword puzzles. The last ten years in Tonasket brought him much joy and happiness as his children, grandchildren and a very special great-granddaughter, Madeleine, showered him with love and attention.

Graveside Services with traditional casketed burial will take place Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 1:30 p.m. at The National Cemetery, 21702 W Espanola Rd., Medical Lake, WA 99022.
