Helen “Bernice” Godier, 95, died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at North Valley Extended Care in Tonasket.
Bernice was born in Danby, Mo., on Sept. 17, 1915 to Chris and Sarah Garber. She married Raymond Godier on April 30, 1939 in Crystal City, Mo. Most of her life was spent in Crystal City until she moved to Oroville to be with her daughter, Joan Cool in 2004. She has lived at NVEC since 2006. She was very happy and treated like a queen while living there. The love and care received from Debbie Smith, her CNA, went far beyond the call of duty. She truly made our Mom’s last years very happy. We also thank the entire staff at North Valley and Dr. Doug Wilson for being so caring to our mother.
She is survived by two daughters: Joan (Bruce) Cool of Oroville and Lesa Brown of Festus, Mo; two sons: Kenneth (Jan) Godier of Festus, Mo. and Greg (Jocelyn) Godier of Cerro Gordo, Ill. She has six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Bernice also has a brother, George Garber of Danby, Mo., and a sister, LaVerne (Ken) Carbo of Colorado Springs, Colo. She is also survived by her best friend, Glenda Leitterman of Springfield, Mo.
Bernice will always be remembered for her great sense of humor, friendly, positive attitude and her rhubarb pies. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Oroville on Thursday, May 5 at 2 p.m. with Father David Kuttner, officiating. Memorials may be made to Oroville Streetscape, 54 Boundary Point Rd. Oroville, WA 98844 or to North Valley Extended Care, 22 West 1st, Tonasket, WA 98855.
