Charles “Slim” Rains Jr., passed away suddenly Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at his home. He was born Aug. 8, 1929 to Charles Sr. and Lona Rain. Charlie lived his entire life in Malott and graduated from Okanogan High School.
He married Peggy Schmidt, of Mansfield, in June of 1949. They lived and raised their three children: JoDe, Kim and Kurt on their ranch south of Malott, until Peggy’s death.
Charlie and Louise Jayko Tollefson, Malott, were married in Oct. of 1968. They continued ranching and in 1970 formed Okanogan Valley Disposal. After selling the disposal contract in 1975 they established a small apartment complex in Malott, which they ran until retirement.
Charlie was a longtime member of the Malott Grange, Masonic Lodge and the El Katif Shriners. He was active in his community and church and loved to travel.
Charlie is survived by his wife Louise; daughters: JoDe Greenaway, Malott and Kim Rains, Wenatchee; son, Kurt Rains, Malott; stepsons: Robert Tollefson (Ronna), Omak and Richard Tollefson, Malott; step-daughter-in-law, Cynthia Tollefson, Omak; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Peggy; three sisters: Ruth Rains, Gladys Johnston and Evelyn Smith; step son David Tollefson; and son-in-law Rick Greenaway.
Charlie will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
