Betty M. Long Barnes, known as Bettyvic by her friends, age 93 of Tonasket, died on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at North Valley Extended Care. She was born May 18, 1923 in Wauconda to parents Roy and Mary Long.
Betty attended school in Wauconda and then Tonasket where she graduated in 1941. She attended Northwest Business College in Spokane and then worked at the Ferry County Treasurers Office. On Nov. 27, 1943 she married Vic Barnes in Tonasket. Together they made their home at Whitestone Lake where they raised their family and worked the ranch. Betty lived in this home for 65 years before moving to the Orchard Country Manor and then North Valley Extended Care in Tonasket.
She was a charter member of Washington State Cowbelles, serving as secretary and in 1994 was named Cattle Woman of the Year. She was 4-H leader and honorary member of the Tonasket FFA. Betty was a member of the National, State and County Cattleman’s Association, Wednesday Club, Loomis Community Church and the Whitestone Orthopedic Guild.
Betty is survived by her children, Jim and Holly Barnes, Jerry and Sheila Barnes, Susan and Dick Roberts and Peggy and Al Seccomb, all of the Loomis-Tonasket Area and Vicki and Mitch Greenleaf of Snohomish, Wash.; sister-in-law, BettyBill Barnes of Tonasket and seven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vic and brother, Don Long
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Loomis Community Church with John Newton, officiating. Interment will be at the Loomis Mt. View Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Washington Cattleman‘s Endowment Trust Fund, P.O. Box 96, Ellensburg, WA 98926, the Children’s Hospital, 4800 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105 or a charity of your choice.
