TONASKET – Tonasket High School students are working this year to follow the school year theme of “Make your life a song to remember.”
ASB Secretary-Treasurer Aaron Bharucha said the theme was chosen at the end of last school year during a student council meeting with all class representatives as well as the ASB officers.
“The words mean something different to each person in this school,” he said. “The ASB officers then agreed on ‘iLive, iLearn, iLead, iRoar to go with the theme. They are tied together through iPods, which are all about music.”
Vice President of Publicity Jayden Hawkins said the theme will be tied in with the school’s Homecoming activities, which will be the week of Oct. 4 through Oct. 8.
“We’ve talked about getting more students involved to create more Tiger Pride and we’re going to involve more kids in our activities,” she said.
ASB Advisor Anita Asmussen said one goal of the ASB this year is to improve communication, which is why the students have set up a floor to ceiling calendar in the commons, in order to help students know what activities are going on and when.
The purpose of the ‘i’ statements are to remind students of four basic principles of being a Tonasket Tiger:
iLive with purpose
iLearn with different learning styles
iLead by example, with activities in the community as well as in the school
iRoar with Tiger Pride
“These are also to help promote Tiger PRIDE,” Asmussen said. “Which stand for Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline and Excellence.”
The ASB will be handing out Tiger PRIDE tickets again this year and taking care of the prizes for them. Also, every Friday, at 8:20 a.m., the ASB officers and Asmussen will stand along the upstairs railing and yell out the Tiger Fight Song, in order to help promote more Tiger Pride.
The Tiger Fight Song is:
“Tigers, Tigers hats off to thee,
To our colors, true we will ever be,
So firm and strong, united are we,
Rah rah, sis boom bah,
Rah, sis boom bah,
Cheer for Tonasket High,
T-O-N-A-S-K-E-T go Tigers!”
