CHESAW – The Chesaw Rodeo Club has chosen C&C Rodeo Stock Contractors Red Clark and Harold Carter to be honored as this year’s Fourth of July Chesaw Rodeo Grand Marshals.

Carter and Clark will head up the parade at 12:30 p.m. and have the place of honor as the Grand Marshals at the rodeo which begins at 1 p.m. The rodeo takes place Sunday, July 4 at the Chesaw Rodeo Grounds. To get ready there’s a rodeo dance the night before, Saturday, July 3, with The Powder River Band starting at 9 p.m. and ending at 1 a.m.

Clark, who describes himself as “79-years-young,” started his career being a stock contractor in Utah in 1963. He moved to Washington and continued in that profession, picking up Carter as a partner about 25 years ago. He is the father of six daughters and grandfather to many. He is still doing rodeos, supplying his stock and working as a pick-up man. Clark lives in Ford, Wash. with his wife Sandy.

Harold Carter is the other half of C & C Rodeo Stock Contractors. He was born in Chelan 76 years ago and claims to be “older than dirt.” He graduated from high school in Arcada, Calif. in 1954. He began his rodeo career riding bulls, steer dogging and bareback horses while in high school. After graduating he joined the army and was a paratrooper.

He and his wife Peggy moved back to Chelan and he joined the Chelan Rodeo Rustlers serving as president for many years. Carter, along with Joe Kelsey, Ralph McLean and others founded the Western Rodeo Association (WRA) now known as the PWRA (Professional Western Rodeo Association) in the late 1960s. He has also owned his own long haul truck driving business until health forced him to sell it. He is the father of four stepchildren and two daughters. He now lives with his daughter Tena in Spokane.

This is the 68th Annual Fourth of July Chesaw Rodeo. It is presented by the Chesaw Rodeo Club,whose members say they are proud to honor Clark and Carter as Grand Marshals this year.
