TONASKET – The goal amount for the North Valley Hospital District warrants was announced as being met during the hospital board’s meeting on Thursday, Dec. 16.

“We are on track with the warrants, which will be at $2,490,000 as of Dec. 17,” Bomi Bharucha, chief financial officer, said.

During the rest of his financial report to the board, Bharucha said the month of November had low volumes and high bad-debt write-off, resulting in a loss for the district. Year-to-Date, the district has made an $180,000 profit and the hospital has made a $208,000 profit while the long-term care division has sustained a $28,000 loss.

As part of this meeting, the board voted to retain their current officer positions of Helen Casey as board chairwoman, Herb Wandler as board vice-chairman and Dick Larson as board secretary. Although Larson said he would like to stick with the same board officers because things are going well for the district right now, Commissioner Lael Duncan said she would like a more open process for officer nominations and elections for next year.

Finally, Casey stated she would like to commend everyone working in the hospital district this year.

“It’s been quite a year and my hat’s off to everyone,” she said. “One year ago, I wasn’t sure where we were going or how we were going to get there. I’m just so proud of everybody.”

The board’s next meeting will be on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. in the boardroom.
