TONASKET – A new business in Oroville is offering help to North County residents in restoring relaxation and balance to their lives.
Priya Shellenbarger, an Oroville resident, is beginning “Transforming Energy,” a business aimed at helping people relax through various techniques including reiki, myofascail release, emotional freedom technique (EFT) and PSYCH-K.
“This helps people release stress so that they can experience that luxurious feeling of calm,” Shellenbarger said in a business description.
Shellenbarger has been involved in the healing arts for about 30 years, she said. She became interested in reiki after reading about it and decided to learn.
“After I took my first class, I knew I was to teach reiki,” she said. “What a great opportunity to help others to empower themselves, offering a technique that can help themselves and others in a very powerful yet gentle way.”
Reiki involves Shellenbarger holding her hands on or above an area of tension in a person’s body on a padded table in her home. According to a website on reiki, the “spiritual force” is then directed through Shellenbarger’s hands and into the area holding tension on the patient’s body.
“It is so relaxing and beneficial in so many ways to the client,” she said.
Reiki and the other healing arts Shellenbarger practices are a way of bringing relaxation and peace to people’s lives, she said.
“This is about releasing the everyday stress and transforming it back into balanced well-being,” she said. “It’s a tool that people can use on themselves, family and friends, animals, plants and the world.”
Although there will not be a grand opening for Transforming Energy, Shellenbarger will offer free 20-minute reiki sessions for the community from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month beginning in August. On the last Wednesday of each month beginning in August, she will offer other local reiki practitioners a gathering spot to share methods. Those sessions will begin at 6 p.m.
Shellenberger’s business is open Tuesday to Friday and she works from her home, although she can travel to another location. For more information, contact her at (509) 476-3999. She is located off Main Street in Oroville.
