OROVILLE – Globe at the Beach opened at Veranda Beach Resort in Oroville for Mother’s Day Weekend and showcased a new menu for summer.

Located in the former Dairy Point Diner, the new owners Jude Brunt and Paul Dohrety, say the restaurant offers a tasty all-day breakfast menu and a deliciously different lunch menu, as well as a fresh, globally-inspired dinner menu offered from 4:30 p.m. until closing. They also have a special kids menu full of great tasting, health food with lots of kid appeal.

“We wanted to keep the kids’ menu healthy, keeping their mothers in mind,” said Brunt.

Whether on the kids’ menu or the adults’ everything is cooked from scratch and has an interesting little twist to it, say the restaurant owners.

“You won’t see French toast or a banana split like Globe’s for miles around. And for coffee lovers this is the place to come too… great smooth, rich European-style lattes, cappuccinos and mochas are another specialty,” Brunt said.

Owners Brunt and Doherty, are Canadians, but originally from England and Ireland, respectively. They already run two other Globe restaurants in ski resorts in B.C. – one at Big White and the other at Sun Peaks, which offers year-around service because of the golf course located there.

Brunt and her husband have two kids and Doherty and his wife have three. The families are living in cottages at the resort. Eventually, in perhaps a year, they plan on finding or training a good full time manager for the restaurant.

They have found the chef they wanted in Michael Coates, according to Brunt.

“That was a major piece of the jigsaw,” she said.

The Globe welcomes those who live at the resort as well as the public in general. The restaurant will be open May 8 to June 30 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Starting June 1 it is open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. For reservations phone (509) 476-0815 or (509) 476-4000.

The restaurant and resort are also planning several combined activities. An event that is coming soon is Jamming at the Beach, planned for Saturday, June 5. Everyone is invited to come showcase their talent by reserving a mic by calling Charlene at (509) 476-2712.

The restaurant, like Veranda Beach, has hired several local people for summer help. The Globe currently has eight local high school kids in its employ, as well as a couple that worked in the diner last year.
