OROVILLE – While she did much more than advertising sales for the Gazette-Tribune, Charlene Helm will be entering a new chapter in her life, leaving advertising behind and working with her husband Greg working on houses and managing property.
Helm came to the newspaper 16 years ago and has been a strong part of the G-T team, selling and creating custom advertisements for customers from Oroville and Tonasket to as far south as Chelan and as far north as Penticton, B.C.
Originally from California, she moved her with her husband in 1985 and worked locally around Oroville. Also, prior to working at the newspaper she graduate from Wenatchee Valley College – North Campus in 2000 with an associate of technical science degree in business information technology and earning the President’s Medal.
“I appreciate every each and every one of you I’ve met while working at the Gazette-Tribune. You’ve taught me a lot. I will see you around and look forward to chatting with you,” said Helm about the customers she’s worked with.
“Sound Publishing has been an amazing company to work for. Also, I want to thank the Penticton Western News for their support and help over the years. It has been a pleasure working with all of them. Also, I want to let Gary and all the people who have worked at the Gazette-Tribune that I have enjoyed working and getting to know all of you. Nathan will be in good hands,” she said.
The Helms have two children, Sarah and Justin and his wife Jessica and they have five grandkids, Hailey, ten; Coen, eight; Livi, seven; Miles, four and Carter, two.
While she lists working at the Gazette-Tribune as one of her favorite things, she adds that she has enjoyed all the people she’s met along the way.
“I will miss seeing and working with all of them. I also loved creating ads for my customers… putting fourth the vision we came up with for advertising in their business, product or event and more,” Helm said.
It won’t be all work after she’s gone from the newspaper business.
“We recently bought a camper and we look forward to taking some fun camping trips,” she said.
