TONASKET – Tonasket’s volleyball team got off to a lightning-quick start against Omak, but couldn’t maintain their momentum as the Pioneers came back for a 17-25, 25-12, 25-12, 25-18 victory over the Tigers.
“(We) played well again,” said Tonasket coach Jackie Gliddon. “We continue to work on being able to finish.”
The first set was everything Gliddon could have asked for, but Omak came back to with a 10-1 run in the second set to snap a 6-6 tie, and similarly ran off an 8-1 run in the second set.
The Tigers trailed 20-10 in the fourth game but got back to within 23-18 before the Pioneers finished things off.
“Ahlia Young was consistent on the serving line,” Gliddon said. “Carrisa Frazier and Jenny Bello both continue to be consistent on the serving line as well. Cassie Spear dug the ball well for the team as the libero … her hustle on the court helps to keep the ball in play.”
The Tigers (2-3, 0-3 Caribou Trail League) travel to Cascade on Saturday. Omak improved to 1-2 in league play.
Stats: Ahlia Young 14-15 serving, 2 aces; Sadie Long 9-10 serving, 1 ace, 5 kills; Devan Utt 7-9 serving, 2 aces, 5 kills; Savannah Clinedinst 4 kills; Amber Monroe 2 kills.
