Ethelyn “Lefty” Vest passed away peacefully at Apple Meadows in Omak surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 at the age of 76.

Lefty was born in Recco, Alta on Sept. 25, 1931 to Frank and Theresa Browning. The family moved to the Tonasket/Oroville area in 1935. Lefty attended the Tonasket schools. On Aug. 18, 1973 Lefty married Richard “Bud” Vest in Brewster. Lefty and Bud spent as much time traveling with their friends as possible. When they both retired, they would spend weeks and months traveling in their motorhome to as many destinations as they could go. Lefty had been a previous member of the Eastern Star Chapter 113, Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles and Ladies White Shrine El Katif of Spokane.

Lefty is survived by her husband, Bud Vest; her daughter, Debra Picard (Dick); her son, Steve LaCoy (Denise); her granddaughters, Jaci Routien (Rich), Summer Pruitt (Chris) and Andrea LaCoy; her sisters, Jessie Marks Mihilitch, Fran Robison and Joanne Wilson; and her brothers, Ronnie Browning, Henry Browning and Norm Browning.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held for Lefty at the Okanogan Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Foundation.

Anna Lois Whittington

Anna Lois Whittington, age 89, of Oroville, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 13, 2008 in the North Valley Nursing Home in Tonasket.

She was born Anna Lois Tolbert on May 30, 1919 in McCurtain, Okla. Lois married Raymond Ray Whittington in Oklahoma City, Okla. on Aug. 9, 1937. They were married 45 years and had seven children. Lois and Ray lived in several different states before settling in Tonasket in 1957 and later moving to Oroville.

Lois accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1950. She was a great example of what she believed. Her first and foremost request to her children and family is: “Live for Jesus so you can meet me in heaven.” Her favorite hobby was her children and family. One of Lois’ latest hobbies was emailing to all her email buddies including family members, which totaled over 150. Learning to use the computer was a great accomplishment at the age of 82. Past hobbies included sewing, embroidery, writing songs, hat collecting and yard sales. She was a Sunday school teacher and Children’s Church leader for many years. Lois was a member of the Assembly of God in Oroville where she became known as the “Hat Lady.”

Anna is survived by her brother, Carl Tolbert of Brookhaven, Miss.; her sisters: Naomi Winters of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Marie Pierce of Terlton, Okla. and Nila Dubberke of Tulsa, Okla.; her daughters: Nancy(Gary) Moore of Boise, Idaho, Rayetta (Jack) Caddy of Tonasket, Faye (Wayne) Maddox of Kennewick, Wash. and Tina Whittington of Portland, Ore.; her son, Donald (Christine) Whittington of Tonasket; over 140 grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded by her husband, Ray Whittington; daughters: Connie Mae Whittington and Darlene Krupkat Rohleder; parents: Nora and Elmer Tolbert; sister, Ruby Greenlee; and brothers: John Edward Tolbert and James Ezra Tolbert

Services will be held Friday, Sept 19, 2008, 11 a.m., at the Oroville Assembly of God, 623 Central, Oroville Wash. Interment will follow at the Tonasket Cemetery. Pastor Dwayne Turner of the Oroville Assembly will be officiating at the service. Lois may be reached at awhit82@heaven.org.
