TONASKET – The Tonasket men’s soccer team is seventh in their league after a 2-2 tie game against Okanogan on Saturday, July 11.

The team, part of the North Central Washington Adult Soccer League is seventh out of 15 teams total. They have a player’s coach, Ernesto Palomares, who has been on the team for 15 years.

“The game against Okanogan was a good game but hard,” Palomares said. “It was hard because everyone was worn out running in the hot weather.”

Palomares said the team is doing well this season and is getting better at playing as a team. He said the league standings are done based on how many points are scored during a game, rather than how many wins, losses and ties a team has.

The team has 11 games left before the regular season ends on Aug. 26 while the playoffs begin on Aug. 29. Palomares said the top eight teams go into the quarter finals.

“Hopefully we’ll end up as the number four team, we have the potential to,” he added. “We’re playing better than last year. Last year we made it to the quarter finals but we could have made it to the finals.”

Due to there being an uneven number of teams in the league, Tonasket won’t have a game this weekend and their next game will be on Wednesday, July 22 in Brewster at 7 p.m. Their next home game is Saturday, July 25 in Chief Tonasket Park at 7 p.m.
