TONASKET – The Tonasket School District Board of Directors announced they will run a levy on April 27, 2010 during their board meeting on Monday, Oct. 26.

“The uncertainty of state funding needs to be addressed in order to establish funding amounts,” Paul Turner, superintendent, said. “The bottom line though, is the kids lose if the funding is cut short.”

The district must declare a levy amount by late February or early March.

During the meeting, Tonasket Middle School Principal Ed Morgan told the board that the middle school is working on formative assessments for their Pyramids of Intervention. This means working on different ways to assess student understanding throughout a lesson. Morgan said the middle school football and volleyball teams had successful seasons. Chastity Cork was announced as the new ASB advisor.

Jeff Cravy, Tonasket Elementary School principal, said the Professional Learning Communities have been focusing on math recently. The elementary school is having an Egyptian Animal Assembly on Dec. 3.

Principal Jeff Hardesty of Tonasket High School told the board each of the schools took teachers to the Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies training.

During the ASB report, the board was told the high school is hosting their Veteran’s Day Assembly on Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the commons. The elementary school is having a Veteran’s Day Assembly on Thursday, Nov. 12 in the morning and the middle school is having their assembly on Nov. 10 at 1:40 p.m. The high school is also raising money for the Armed Forces Legacy Project through a coin drive. Finally, the high school is hosting a college fair on Friday, Nov. 5.

The next school board meeting, scheduled for Monday, Nov. 9, has been declared a school board work session.
