TONASKET – Food and coat donations can still be made to fill the bed of a truck at OK Chevrolet until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31.
“This time of year, everybody needs as much help as they can get,” Randy McBride, sales manager at OK Chevrolet said. “I did this food and coat drive down in Colville last year and got a great response there so I decided to do it here this year. It’s about giving back to the community.”
Throughout the month of December, OK Chevrolet has hosted this drive. During business hours, people are welcome to come by and donated food and coats as well as blankets.
“We had one woman bring in a bunch of fleece blankets and we said ‘we’ll take what we can get,'” McBride said.
From Dec. 1 through Dec. 18, OK Chevrolet and most of the other businesses in town helped encourage a coin drive at Tonasket High School for the Tonasket Food Bank.
“What we did for the high school was they did a coin drive on their own among the classes,” McBride said. “The winning class was the sophomores so they won a pizza party. It was a community business sponsored party for the 93 kids in the sophomore class.”
He said the whole high school raised just over $365 for the food bank.
While the collected food will all go to the Tonasket Food Bank, the coats and blankets will be donated to the Lutheran Church’s clothing drive.
The weekend before Christmas, OK Chevrolet also played host to Santa Claus and welcomed the community to come in and have a free photo taken with Santa.
