Joseph ‘Joe’ Mundt, age 86, died at the Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee May 24, 2011.
He was the first born to August and Gertrude Mundt Sept. 24, 1924 at home on their ranch located on Nine Mile Road outside of Molson. He attended the Nine Mile one-room school through the eighth grade, continuing his education at Oroville High School and graduating with the class of 1943. After graduation he worked at the Oroville theater for four years as a projectionist then returned to work on the family ranch, working seasonally at the Valley Evap. in Oroville.
He married Edna Pierre April 22, 1948 and they lived on the wheat and cattle ranch on Nine Mile Road. The family moved to Wenatchee in 1963. Joe worked for Barkley Cabinet Shop. When Barkelys closed he went to work for Bagdons making cabinets. He retired from Columbia Woodworking in 1986. He loved working in his own woodshop making small boxes and gifts for people, as well as doing wood projects for other people. He also enjoyed his daily lunches with his friends at the Senior Center.
Joe is survived by his son, Randy Mundt of Bridgeport, Wash.; daughter, Beverly Mundt of Anacortes, Wash.; adopted son, Tom VanDeMark of Kent Wash.; grandson, Kelly Mundt of Chicago Ill. and sisters Irene Schultz of Red Lake Falls, Minn., Mary Pugh Oakland, Calif. and Maurine Steinbach of Moses Lake, Wash.
A Memorial service will be held at Bergh Funeral Chapel in Oroville on Monday, June 6, 2011. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the service beginning at 1 p.m. Inturnment will follow at the Molson Cemetery with lunch to follow at Mary Louise Loe’s house.
